Engineering for Damen Dredging

Ulstein Idea just successfully delivered the engineering package for the fabrication of a new cutter ladder for the conversion of an existing cutter suction dredger. The cutter dredger will be deployed in China to prepare the seabed for the installation of the submerged Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao tunnel project.
The biggest challenge for this project was doubling the lenght of the cutter ladder to reach a working depth of 50 m. Vessel motion and dynamic analysis were used to determine the governing load cases and predict the workability of the cutter suction dredger. Detailed drawings were delivered to Damen Dredging Equipment in order to start the fabrication at the yard of the client in China.
Reaction from Damen, from Project Manager Arjan van Egdom: “Damen Dredging Equipment did not have the capacity to do the project alone. And asked Ulstein Idea to participate. Due to the very short delivery time of the engineering, a close corporation between Damen Dredging Equipment and Ulstein Idea was absolutely necessary. As a result all engineering was delivered in time, so the corporation was a success.”
